Hapoel Tel Aviv's Jacob Toppin Credits Ex-Maccabi Player for Israel Move

Jacob Toppin, the new forward for Hapoel Tel Aviv, revealed that a former Maccabi Tel Aviv player, Jeff Dowtin, advised him to join an Israeli team. Toppin explained his decision to play in Israel stemmed from a desire to restart his career after not finding a place in the NBA following an injury. He stated that Hapoel Tel Aviv was the team most eager to sign him, and he is excited to begin his season with them.

Toppin, who is now at 100% health, described his acclimatization to Israel and the team. He mentioned seeking advice from friends who play abroad, with Dowtin specifically sharing positive experiences from his year playing in Israel. Toppin also discussed his conversation with coach Dimitris Itoudis, characterizing it as a brief, direct exchange about mutual expectations and the team's "big aspirations" for the season.

He further highlighted the significant support he received from teammate "Ish" Wainwright, who took him under his wing and helped him navigate the initial challenges of adjusting to the team and the country. Toppin expressed confidence in his abilities, stating he can guard the opponent's best player, space the floor, and make open shots.
