Ex-Maccabi Tel Aviv Player Advised Jacob Toppin to Join Hapoel Tel Aviv

Jacob Toppin, the new forward for Hapoel Tel Aviv, is set to begin his EuroLeague season against Bayern Munich. In a recent interview with Franckie Zazas for the EuroLeague website, Toppin discussed his decision to play in Israel and his adaptation to the country. He explained that after not finding a place in the NBA following an injury, joining Hapoel Tel Aviv felt like the right move to restart his career. Toppin expressed his excitement about being 100% healthy and highlighted that Hapoel Tel Aviv was the team most eager to sign him.

Toppin also spoke about seeking advice from friends who play abroad, noting that former Hapoel Tel Aviv player Jeff Dowtin, who played in Israel for a year, had a very positive experience. Regarding his conversations with coach Dimitris Itoudis, Toppin described them as brief and to the point, focusing on mutual expectations and the team's ambition to achieve significant success this year.

He specifically credited Josh Weinberg with helping him navigate his initial adjustment period in Israel. Toppin stated that Weinberg took him under his wing and guided him through the process. Toppin also outlined his perceived strengths on the court, including his ability to guard the opponent's best player, space the floor, and make open shots when needed.
