Ambassador Yechiel Leiter's Son Critically Injured in Jerusalem Terror Attack

Neria Dov Leiter, son of Israel's Ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, was critically injured Tuesday in a vehicular ramming attack in Jerusalem. The ambassador, who was in the US, flew back to Israel and arrived Wednesday morning at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, where his son is in intensive care. "This experience is different from the night I received the knock on the door," Ambassador Leiter said, referring to the death of his other son. "Moshe was killed instantly, there was no chance to try and save his life, and we weren't given the opportunity to gather around his deathbed. This time, despite the immense anxiety and fear that I would land in a hopeless situation, we have a chance to fight for Neria's life."

Amidst the family's profound grief, there was also joyous news: Leiter's daughter gave birth to a baby girl on Tuesday. The newborn is hospitalized near her brother in the intensive care unit.

Three years ago, Ambassador Leiter lost his eldest son, Major Moshe Yedidya Leiter, who fell in combat in Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip. Moshe had previously commanded a unit in the Sayeret Shaldag special forces unit and a company in the Paratroopers Brigade.
