Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is undertaking a brief visit to the United States on September 24th to address the United Nations General Assembly. This trip, lasting less than a day and without meetings with foreign leaders, occurs amidst what is described as an unprecedentedly hostile atmosphere towards Israel at the UN and anticipated protests in New York. Netanyahu arrives as the leader of a more isolated state than in previous years, with significant efforts made to secure even minor meetings.

During his whirlwind visit, Netanyahu is expected to meet with Argentinian President Javier Milei and Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša, who has been characterized as a replacement for Viktor Orbán in blocking European sanctions against Israel. A meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump is not scheduled. The core of the visit is his address to the UN General Assembly, after which he is to return to Israel.

Netanyahu's speech is anticipated to focus on Iran, with potential revelations of intelligence regarding its nuclear and missile programs, possibly including aerial photographs. This move is expected to be supported by the heads of Mossad and Shin Bet. He also plans to address the controversy surrounding New York Mayor Eric Adams and recent terror attacks, including one that injured the son of Israel's ambassador to Washington.

Despite the international stage, the primary audience for Netanyahu's speech, just over a month before elections, is the Israeli public. The message is expected to emphasize the need for a strong leader. The visit, which does not include a hotel stay, is still expected to incur significant costs due to pre-booked hotel floors. Protests are planned in New York by supporters of Mayor Adams and by left-wing groups, while a pro-Israel demonstration is organized by the Jewish community.

Netanyahu will be accompanied by his wife, Sara, and son, Yair. His arrival is scheduled for a military airfield in New Jersey, from where he will proceed directly to the UN headquarters.
