Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa responded to comments by U.S. President Donald Trump about Damascus’s role in dealing with Hezbollah in Lebanon. Al-Sharaa said Trump had expressed concern about what is happening in Lebanon and wanted to stop the war there.
According to al-Sharaa, Trump spoke about Syria’s role in helping find a safe solution, but the remarks were misunderstood. He said the statement was taken to mean that Syria was about to invade Lebanon “tomorrow morning,” which was not the intended message.
The Syrian president’s comments came after Trump discussed Syria’s possible involvement in efforts related to Hezbollah and the conflict in Lebanon. Al-Sharaa framed the U.S. president’s words as a call for de-escalation rather than a military threat.
