European Nations Pressure Trump Administration to Tighten Measures Against Israel

A broad European campaign, led by Britain, France, and Sweden, is urging the Trump administration to intensify its actions against Israel concerning settlement construction in the West Bank and nationalist-driven violence. This diplomatic push comes amid security establishment warnings of potential escalation in the region.

Earlier this month, 12 European countries announced significant economic sanctions targeting the West Bank, marking a notable escalation from previous individual sanctions. Israeli officials are increasingly concerned that these economic measures could expand beyond the West Bank and directly impact Israeli companies and businesses operating within Israel's pre-1967 borders.

Israeli diplomats report growing attention to the issue in Washington, with European nations actively encouraging the U.S. administration to move beyond condemnations and implement concrete actions. The diplomatic efforts are seen as a response to the heightened tensions and security concerns in the West Bank.

Israeli leadership, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is preparing to address these international pressures. Netanyahu is scheduled to deliver a speech at the UN General Assembly, which his office describes as a "battle for truth" aimed at countering what they term "slanders" against Israel and the IDF. While the sanctions and the Palestinian issue will be addressed, the primary focus of Netanyahu's speech is expected to remain the threat posed by Iran.
