Former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar and his wife, Daphne Bar-Agassi, were rushed out of the United Arab Emirates during a security conference after an unusual security warning was received, according to a report on Channel 13.
The conference was held under the sponsorship of UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed and brought together senior officials from security, intelligence and decision-making circles from several countries around the world. While Bar was in the UAE, the alert reportedly raised fears for his safety.
Following the warning, the couple was removed from the country immediately and flown back to Israel in complete secrecy. The details of the incident and the evacuation have been kept under heavy confidentiality and had not been disclosed until now.
Bar has remained active in public initiatives since leaving his post as Shin Bet chief. In February, Kan News reported that he was working to establish a political leadership school with Reichman University, a move that drew criticism at the time from the political establishment.
