Israel Warns Syria Against Becoming Iranian Base
Defense Minister Israel Katz responded to a speech by Syrian President Ahmed al-Shar'a at the United Nations, stating that the Golan Heights are an inseparable part of Israel and that Syria will not be allowed to become a threat.
"We will act as needed to prevent this," Katz declared, asserting that Syria has become an Iranian base and a threat to Israel and its borders. He referenced the 1974 separation of forces agreement, which he claimed Syria has violated.
Katz further stated that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will remain in the Hermon ridge and the security zone as long as a "jihadist threat" exists on the border and to Israeli communities.
