Tel Aviv Sets New Record for E-Scooter Confiscations Amidst Fines
The Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality has set a new record for confiscating electric scooters and issuing fines, generating millions of shekels. In an effort to curb dangerous riding, the city recently increased the penalty for not installing a license plate on two-wheeled vehicles from 500 to 750 shekels.
In 2025 alone, the municipality confiscated a total of 2,460 electric scooters and issued 55,000 tickets. This past month, Tel Aviv saw an unprecedented 642 confiscations and 7,667 tickets issued. Based on a 500 shekel fine for the lack of a license plate, this amounts to an estimated 4 million shekels in revenue for the month.
Meital Lahav, the Deputy Mayor for Transportation, stated, "It is impossible that a pedestrian, a parent with a stroller, or an elderly person will be afraid to leave the house." Tel Aviv-Yafo was the first municipality to lead legislative efforts for enforcement against riders on life-threatening issues, mandating shared scooter companies to install identification plates approximately six years ago to enable enforcement against illegal riding.
