Tel Aviv Enforcement Camera Locations Revealed to Scooter Riders
Bird, the micromobility company, is sharing the locations of new Tel Aviv municipal enforcement cameras in its app and social media channels, along with the fines for common traffic offenses. The company says the move is meant to warn riders about tighter electronic enforcement across the city and help customers avoid unexpected penalties.
The announcement comes amid growing public debate over enforcement cameras and privacy in urban space, especially after the State Comptroller’s recent report on privacy violations involving bus-lane enforcement cameras. Bird says the city is relying on automated camera tickets rather than more active policing of dangerous riders.
The company listed several main enforcement points in Tel Aviv where street cameras are being used against scooter violations: Yigal Alon Street 101 near the Yehudit Bridge, Allenby Street at Allenby 3 near the promenade, Allenby 43 near Carmel Market, Jerusalem Boulevard 37 between the Shlomo light rail station and Bloomfield Station, and Rothschild Boulevard 124 near the School of Arts and Sciences. It also said remote filming can happen elsewhere in the city.
Bird noted that police and enforcement officers may photograph riders from a distance without stopping them, and the ticket is then sent by mail. The company reminded riders of the statutory penalties, 1,000 shekels for not wearing a helmet, 250 shekels for riding on the sidewalk or carrying a passenger, and 500 shekels for obscuring a license plate. Bird executive Inessa Suskin said the company believes it must not only provide transport and safety gear such as helmets, but also give riders the full picture so they can ride safely and avoid heavy fines.
