Austria Coach Dismisses World Cup Hangover Ahead of Israel Match

Austria's national football team is set to begin their Nations League campaign against Israel on Thursday, with head coach Ralf Rangnick expressing confidence despite the team's recent transition. This marks Austria's first match since their elimination from the World Cup by Spain in the round of 16.

Rangnick addressed the shift from the World Cup to the Nations League, stating there is no 'hangover.' He noted that nearly half the squad has changed since the World Cup, with new players and others who did not participate now integrated. He emphasized that each player must take responsibility to elevate their performance and that the team's energy levels are high.

The coach stressed that his team's focus is solely on the upcoming match against Israel, having completed two intensive training sessions. Notably, Rangnick was observed using a golf cart to move between players during a training session.

Rangnick acknowledged Israel's attacking strengths, describing them as a team that enjoys possession and employs dangerous offensive patterns. He believes Austria's performance is within their control. When asked about the security situation, Rangnick commented that wars are unnecessary and costly in human lives, advocating for shared responsibility and coexistence.

Regarding team leadership, Rangnick appointed a new captain, explaining that it was a natural choice due to the player's experience and leadership within the squad. The newly appointed captain, who replaces three previous captains not included in the current roster, expressed pride in being the first to take the field.
