Syrian President Asserts Golan Heights Remain Syrian Territory
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, stating that the Golan Heights will remain Syrian territory. "Any attempt to violate our sovereignty will be stopped. The Golan will remain Syrian land. Any other attempt will be thwarted in accordance with Security Council resolutions," Assad declared during his speech.
The address was part of another day of speeches at the UN General Assembly. Assad's remarks reiterated Syria's long-standing position on the Golan Heights, which Israel captured from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed, a move not recognized by the international community.
