Syrian Leader Al-Julani Addresses UN, Rejects Israeli Sovereignty Over Golan

Syrian regime leader Muhammad al-Julani delivered a sharp address at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, vehemently challenging Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights. He asserted that the Golan will remain Syrian territory and declared all annexation measures by Israel null and void, citing UN Security Council Resolution 497.

Al-Julani urged the international community to uphold international law and called for Israel's withdrawal to the 1974 separation lines. He accused Israel of repeated military strikes within Syria, claiming these actions, numbering around 500 air and artillery attacks and over 1,200 ground incursions, threaten Syria's stability and evoke painful memories for Syrians.

"No attempt to impose facts on the ground can harm the legitimacy of our state, the sovereignty of our law, and the validity of international law," al-Julani stated, demanding that partners "say what international law says." He also called for a return to the 1974 disengagement agreements and the withdrawal of Israeli forces to the lines of December 8, 2024, rejecting Israel's ongoing attempts to impose facts on the ground and viewing its actions as a threat to regional security and stability.
