Israeli Election Committee Votes to Disqualify Arab Party Ra'am
Israel's Central Elections Committee has voted to disqualify the Arab party Ra'am, led by Mansour Abbas, from participating in the upcoming 26th Knesset elections. The decision passed with 18 votes in favor, five against, and one abstention. The push to remove Ra'am came from parties including Likud and Otzma Yehudit, as well as the "B'haru B'hayim" organization, which represents families of victims of terror attacks. These groups argued that Ra'am and its affiliated organizations have ties to Hamas and support armed struggle against Israel.
Representatives for Ra'am have denied these accusations. The Adalah Legal Center, representing the party, stated that the disqualification requests lack evidence that Ra'am supports armed struggle or hostile states or organizations. The Central Elections Committee's decision is not final, and the Supreme Court of Justice will now review the matter of Ra'am's participation in the elections.
