Negev Arabs Convene Emergency Meeting to Protest Village Eviction

The Negev Arabs' Guidance Committee announced an emergency meeting to be held Wednesday evening in the village of Dahiya, near Rahat, in protest of a decision to displace its residents. The committee stated that Dahiya, home to approximately 300 members of the Abu Wadi family, faces the demolition of homes and the eviction of its inhabitants. The residents assert their historical right to the land they have inhabited for decades, inherited from their ancestors.

The committee's statement emphasized the plight of the 300 individuals, including families, children, and elders, who have deep roots and a historical connection to the land and demand the right to live with dignity and security, rather than face demolition and displacement.

In response to these circumstances, the local committee in Dahiya is calling on residents, the public, popular leaders, elected officials, and representatives of institutions and popular committees to attend the meeting. The gathering aims to show solidarity with the villagers and support their resilience. The committee believes that attending the meeting will send a clear message of support and advocate for dialogue, planning, and just solutions instead of demolition and displacement.

The meeting was postponed to 7:00 PM at the Abu Wadi family's diwan, near the village mosque, to allow more people to participate, following a request from members of the Guidance Committee and Attia Al-A'asam, head of the regional council.
