Negev Village Holds Emergency Meeting Amid Demolition Threats

The local committee of Dhahiya village, north of Rahat in the Negev desert, called an emergency meeting for Wednesday evening to discuss the imminent threat of home demolitions and the potential displacement of its residents. The village is home to approximately 300 members of the Abu Wadi family, who assert their ancestral rights to the land they have inhabited for decades.

The meeting's agenda includes exploring strategies to counter the demolition and displacement risks, while also affirming the residents' right to remain on their land with safety and dignity. The committee urged residents, community leaders, elected officials, and representatives of various organizations to attend and show solidarity.

The meeting was rescheduled to 7:00 PM at the request of the steering committee and the head of the Regional Council of Unrecognized Villages, Attia Al-Aasam, to allow broader participation. It is being held at the Abu Wadi family's diwan, near the village mosque. This follows a separate incident where two homes and trees were demolished in the Negev village of Abda.
