Umm al-Fahm Initiative Translates Neighborhood Needs into Projects

An initiative titled "Our Councils Hear Us" has been launched in Umm al-Fahm, an Arab city in Israel, to translate the needs of neighborhoods into actionable projects. The first phase began in the Abu Laham neighborhood with a working meeting attended by Umm al-Fahm Mayor Samir Mahamid. The meeting focused on the neighborhood's needs and how the municipality and relevant bodies can address them.

The initiative is overseen by Adham Jabarin, a council member, social activist, and artist. It is a collaboration between the Equality Center, the "Siraj" project of the "Lawyers for Sound Governance" association, and is supported by the European Union. Activities included a field visit to the "Miftan Masarat" vocational school to learn about its programs and educational challenges.

Future plans involve further field tours, surveys, focus groups, and listening sessions with residents, including women and youth, as well as representatives from civil society organizations and elected officials. The goal is to compile a report detailing the neighborhood's needs and a community action plan. The findings will be presented to the municipality and supporting bodies for potential development and funding.
