New Halachic Work on Fasting and Illness Receives Rabbinic Endorsements
A new book in the "Divrei Chamudot" series, focusing on the complex halachic (Jewish law) issues concerning the sick during the Yom Kippur fast, has been released and received positive reception from prominent rabbinic authorities. Authored by Rabbi Daniel Tzuriel, a dayan (rabbinical judge) and member of the halachic committee of the "Pri Chaim" organization, the book aims to provide a comprehensive guide for rabbis and halachic decisors facing medical situations during fast days.
The work systematically organizes halachic discussions related to patients and unique medical conditions during fasts, presenting a halachic-medical encyclopedia. It covers common illnesses, detailing their medical background and tracing the halachic rulings from their sources to practical application. The book was published shortly before Yom Kippur.
Rabbi Tzuriel presented the book to several leading rabbis, including Rabbi Amram Fried, who praised its organized approach to frequently asked questions. Rabbi Asher Weiss, Av Beit Din of "Drei Hora'ah," also reviewed the book and gave it his warm endorsement, blessing the author for his contribution to Torah scholarship. The book was also presented to Rabbi Yitzchak Moalem, Ra'avad of Beitar, and other rabbinic figures who expressed appreciation for the effort in compiling these complex issues into a single, structured volume.
The "Pri Chaim" organization noted that Rabbi Tzuriel's work aligns with their mission to enhance halachic responses for families, complementing professional and medical guidance. The organization has recently expanded its halachic committee's activities, particularly in areas requiring precise integration of medical realities with halachic rulings.
This new volume follows Rabbi Tzuriel's previous works in the "Divrei Chamudot" series, which covered laws of Shabbat and Niddah (menstruation), addressing topics of purity, medical examinations, and providing halachic guidance for pregnant women and new mothers throughout their life cycles and complex situations.
