Gur Sect Leader and Aide Reach Agreement on Power Sharing

A dispute within the leadership of the Gur Hasidic sect, concerning the roles of MK Yitzhak Goldknopf and his chief of staff Moti Bapchik, has led to a new agreement being drafted. Attorney Ronnie Paluch is mediating the deal, which aims to redefine the division of authority between the two figures.

The conflict escalated to the point where Goldknopf considered terminating Bapchik's employment. The tension reportedly stemmed from concerns within Goldknopf's circle that Bapchik was consolidating power and positioning himself as Goldknopf's successor as the sect's representative in the Knesset. Bapchik, however, claims that certain individuals within the sect attempted to oust him in what he described as a failed "coup."

Goldknopf, who has the backing of the Grand Rabbi of Gur for his political path, stated that Bapchik will remain with him but in a different capacity. "He will work under me as a senior aide, but not as the manager of the political apparatus in Gur as he has operated in recent years," Goldknopf clarified.

Despite efforts to reach a resolution, some sources familiar with the situation suggest Bapchik remains a significant figure within the sect and a trusted confidant of the Grand Rabbi. They believe that rebalancing the power within the office might prove more complex than initially anticipated.

Previously, reports indicated Goldknopf sought to drastically reduce Bapchik's influence and remove the management of the sect's political affairs from his hands, citing Bapchik's accumulation of considerable political power and independent operation over the years. Bapchik had dismissed those reports as "complete nonsense."

If Paluch's agreement is finalized, Goldknopf and Bapchik are expected to continue working together, but the key question will be how much of Bapchik's accumulated political influence will be transferred back to Goldknopf.
