Tensions Between Knesset Member Goldknopf and Aide Motty Bapchik Reach Boiling Point

Recent weeks have seen a significant escalation in tensions between Yitzhak Goldknopf, chairman of the United Torah Judaism party and a Knesset member, and his chief of staff, Motty Bapchik. The dispute reportedly became so severe that Goldknopf considered dismissing Bapchik from his position.

The core of the conflict appears to be a power struggle, with Goldknopf's associates concerned that Bapchik is positioning himself to succeed Goldknopf as the representative of the Gur Hasidic dynasty in the Knesset. Conversely, Bapchik claims that certain factions within the Hasidic community attempted to orchestrate his removal, an effort he characterizes as a failed coup.

Sources close to the matter indicate that the friction intensified to the point where Goldknopf contemplated terminating Bapchik's employment. However, a third party, attorney Ronnie Paluch, has recently intervened to mediate the dispute and prevent a complete breakdown in their working relationship.

Paluch is currently working to formulate a new employment agreement designed to redefine their respective responsibilities and authorities, aiming to facilitate continued collaboration. Goldknopf, who has received the blessing of the Admor of Gur for his political path, feels more secure in his standing within the Hasidic community and is focused on resolving the relationship with Bapchik.

Goldknopf has stated his desire for Bapchik to continue working with him, but in a modified capacity. "He will work under me as a senior assistant, but not as the director of the political apparatus in Gur as he has operated in recent years," Goldknopf clarified. Despite these efforts, some insiders caution that Bapchik remains a significant figure in Gur and a trusted confidant of the Admor, suggesting that rebalancing the power dynamics within the office may prove more complex than anticipated.
