Israel Election Committee Bans Arab MK Sami Abu Shehadeh

The Central Elections Committee has disqualified Sami Abu Shehadeh, chairman of the Balad party, from running in the upcoming Knesset elections. The decision came following a petition by the Otzma Yehudit party, led by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Ben-Gvir welcomed the ruling, stating that "terrorist Sami Abu Shehadeh should not be allowed in the Knesset." He further asserted that "one who sits on the day of the massacre writing an article praising the murders, kidnappings, and rapes of Hamas has his place in the Syrian parliament, not the Israeli one." Ben-Gvir expressed hope that the Supreme Court would uphold the decision, adding "Abu Shehadeh, go to hell!"

The disqualification is based on Abu Shehadeh's alleged support for terrorism and his comments following the October 7th Hamas attacks. Otzma Yehudit argued that his actions and statements constitute incitement and support for terror, making him ineligible to serve in the Israeli parliament. The decision now awaits potential review by the Supreme Court.
