Police Raid Jerusalem Public Shelter, Uncover Counterfeit Goods Operation

Jerusalem police and civilian enforcement officials have uncovered an illegal operation selling suspected counterfeit clothing from a public shelter in the Armon Hanatziv neighborhood. The operation, which involved a lengthy intelligence gathering and undercover investigation, culminated in a raid yesterday. Police stated that documented purchases were made to verify suspicions.

During the search, a large quantity of goods, estimated to be worth approximately NIS 125,000, was seized. Cash was also confiscated from the premises. The joint operation involved officers from the Oz police station, the Israel Tax Authority, the Jerusalem Municipality, and economic enforcement officials.

The Israel Tax Authority is investigating potential tax evasion and significant irregularities related to the business's operations and sales. The Jerusalem Municipality plans to fine the suspect approximately NIS 24,000 for property tax violations and will pursue legal action for the unlawful use of a public structure.

The Federation (likely referring to a brand protection organization) confiscated the suspected counterfeit merchandise and may impose fines totaling up to NIS 2 million, depending on the findings. The suspect, a 40-year-old local resident, was detained for questioning at the Oz station regarding the operation of the business.
