Smotrich Slams Lieberman Over Jordanian Security Role in West Bank
Finance Minister and Minister in the Defense Ministry, Bezalel Smotrich, launched a sharp attack on Avigdor Lieberman, chairman of the Yisrael Beiteinu party. The criticism followed Lieberman's remarks suggesting the possibility of Jordan taking over security and administrative responsibility in the West Bank, including the potential establishment of battalions under Jordanian command.
Smotrich, speaking at the inauguration event for the "Mitzpe Eretz" settlement in the Benjamin region, stated, "Lieberman is talking about Jordanian legions controlling the security of the area where we are currently located. This sounds absurd, but it is the absolute truth." He characterized Lieberman's stance as a "loss of value-based composure by those who were once part of the national camp but chose hatred over action."
Smotrich concluded his remarks by addressing the upcoming elections, urging, "Therefore, we must all work very hard in the next month and a half so that the right wins the elections."
