State Appeals Sentence for Driver in Fatal Crash Killing Mother and Infant
The State Prosecutor's Office has appealed to the Supreme Court regarding the leniency of the sentence handed down to Tarek Kard, who was convicted of causing a fatal 2019 car accident that killed Tzipi Rimel and her three-week-old daughter, Noam. Kard was sentenced to six years in prison, and the prosecution is seeking a harsher penalty.
According to the court's ruling, Kard was driving at approximately 145 km/h on Highway 45, where the speed limit is 90 km/h. He lost control of his vehicle and violently collided with cars stopped at a red light.
The appeal argues that Kard's recklessness was at the highest level, bordering on indifference, and that the sentence imposed does not fully reflect the severity of the consequences of his actions.
