Local Council Employee Arrested for Alleged Bugging of Mayor's Office
Police in northern Israel arrested a 65-year-old employee of the local council in the town of Jish on Wednesday, suspected of planting a listening device in the office of the local authority's head. The investigation began several weeks ago after a complaint was filed by a northern local authority regarding suspected eavesdropping equipment in council offices.
A covert investigation by the Northern District's fraud suppression unit, in cooperation with council officials, gathered evidence that strengthened suspicions against the employee. Police raided the council offices on Tuesday shortly after a meeting concluded and apprehended the employee. Evidence allegedly linked to the installation of the listening device was reportedly found in his possession.
The police are expected to request an extension of the employee's detention from the Tiberias Magistrate's Court as the investigation continues.
