Irish Prime Minister Condemns Israeli Football Association's Response

Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin has strongly criticized the Israeli Football Association's response to comments made by the Irish national team's coach. The controversy began when Irish coach John O'Shea, speaking before a match, stated, "We don't play with genocide, we play against genocide. We play against Israel, not with Israel." He also questioned why Russia was suspended from international competitions while Israel was not.

The Israeli Football Association issued a sharp retort, stating, "We have managed to contribute to the world in many areas, including an impressive number of Nobel Prizes. Unfortunately, we have not yet found a cure for ignorance, stupidity, and hypocrisy as demonstrated by the coach of the Irish national team. We do not play with ignorance, hypocrisy, and stupidity, but against those who represent them as a coach."

In response to the Israeli association's statement, Prime Minister Martin declared, "These are unacceptable statements and they must be retracted. We are very clear, and the UN Secretary-General himself said he has not seen destruction and death in all his years like he has seen in Gaza. Israel cannot continue to deny what the whole world knows."

O'Shea's initial remarks had already drawn attention, with his statement about playing "against genocide" and questioning the differential treatment of Russia and Israel highlighting a contentious issue in international sports.
