Pentagon Awards Hundreds of Millions in Defense Contracts to Major Companies
The U.S. Department of Defense announced on Tuesday a series of new contracts with major defense and technology firms totaling hundreds of millions of dollars. Among the recipients are Boeing, Raytheon, General Dynamics, and Booz Allen Hamilton, with agreements covering areas such as avionics maintenance, missile component production, armored vehicle manufacturing, and aerospace research and development.
Boeing secured a $33.4 million contract from the U.S. Air Force for the initial phase of integrating avionics systems for the C-17 transport aircraft. This contract, awarded without competition, aims to address component obsolescence and ensure the long-term operational capability of the aircraft's avionics laboratory environment. Work is slated to be completed by April 30, 2032, with funding from the fiscal year 2026 operations and maintenance budget.
Raytheon, a subsidiary of RTX, received a $105.6 million contract modification for components of its advanced AIM-120 air-to-air missiles. The contract, with work to be performed in Tucson, Arizona, is scheduled for completion by August 31, 2027. This deal also includes foreign military sales to 30 countries, including Israel, Canada, Australia, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Funding comes from various U.S. Air Force, Navy, and foreign military sales budgets.
General Dynamics Land Systems was awarded a $49.3 million contract modification to produce and deliver V-hull Stryker A1 vehicles, enhancing protection against underbody threats. This modification increases the total contract value to $278.9 million. The original contract was awarded earlier this year, with General Dynamics as the sole bidder. Work is expected to conclude by December 31, 2028.
Booz Allen Hamilton received a contract framework from the Air Force potentially worth up to $85 million for aerospace research and development. The company will focus on digital methods for integrated aerospace system design, particularly for aircraft and thermal management systems. This agreement is valid until September 22, 2036, with initial funding of $75,000 allocated from the fiscal year 2026 research and development budget.
