Haaretz Criticized by Former Journalist Chaim Levinson for Lack of Humanity

Chaim Levinson, a former journalist for the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, has launched a scathing critique of his former employer, alleging a significant disconnect between the newspaper's humanist values and its treatment of staff.

In an interview with Nadav Peri, Levinson described Haaretz as "a newspaper that preaches humanism but its people lack humanity." He further characterized the paper as poorly managed and edited, stating, "It's a newspaper that isn't managed. The editor is, let's say, half-time, he's not more than that... he's preoccupied with his own affairs."

Levinson acknowledged that the lack of stringent management suited him personally, allowing him the freedom to "do what you want." However, he maintained that the criticism regarding the gap between the paper's stated values and its internal practices was valid.

This criticism comes after Levinson was at the center of a media storm last year concerning a Haaretz investigation. The investigation alleged that he received at least NIS 200,000 from the company "Perception" owned by Sarulik Einhorn between 2019 and 2024.
