Channel 13 Reporter Guy Peleg Expresses Doubt Over Publishing Controversial Story

Prominent Israeli investigative journalist Guy Peleg, who has faced criticism from the right-wing public for his reporting, has admitted to experiencing personal turmoil following the publication of the "Kachol 100" (Blue 100) affair. While proud of the journalistic endeavor and the news outlet that aired it, Peleg confessed that the personal cost has made him question whether he would make the same decision today. "I hope so, I can't tell you. I'm not sure about it," he stated when asked if he would publish the story again.

Peleg shared these reflections during an interview on Amnon Levy's podcast, detailing the "piercing questions" that have since plagued him, including concerns about the impact on his family, himself, and his career, extending beyond online criticism. He revealed that the safety of his family members became a significant consideration, highlighting the conflict between his journalistic duty to report public interest information and his responsibility towards his loved ones.

Amnon Levy expressed surprise at Peleg's statement, calling him one of Israel's bravest journalists. Peleg also recounted a different instance where a contrary decision was made. He revealed that his team obtained difficult video footage showing a soldier assaulting dozens of bound Hamas operatives on a bus. The decision was made not to broadcast this footage while approximately 100 Israeli hostages were held in Gaza, due to fears that its release could lead to retaliation or mistreatment of the captives.
