Rope Access Worker Dons Tefillin on 14th Floor Balcony

A video capturing a remarkable moment of religious observance has gone viral, showing a rope access maintenance worker performing the mitzvah of donning tefillin while suspended outside the 14th floor of a residential building in Rishon LeZion. The incident occurred on the eve of Yom Kippur.

While working on the exterior walls of the building in the Kiryat HaLeom neighborhood, the worker was approached by Rabbi Shneur Zalman Gluchovsky, a Chabad emissary. The rabbi, who was on a nearby balcony, invited the worker to put on tefillin before the start of the holy day.

Initially hesitant due to his precarious position, the worker was encouraged by the rabbi, who suggested the unique scene, if filmed, could inspire many to perform the mitzvah. The worker agreed, and while securely attached to his ropes, he donned the tefillin, recited the blessings, and recited the Shema prayer.

The video of the event quickly spread across social media, eliciting numerous reactions. Following the widespread attention, the worker contacted Rabbi Gluchovsky the next day, expressing a desire to hold another similar event, perhaps with a new twist, to further convey the message about the importance of the mitzvah in all circumstances.
