Israeli Singer Yigal Oshri Develops App to Help Him Put On Tefillin Daily
Israeli singer Yigal Oshri, known for his connection to Jewish tradition, recently shared his commitment to strengthening his religious observance by putting on tefillin every day. This decision came after the October 7th massacre, which prompted him to deepen his spiritual practice. Oshri admitted that despite his intention, daily distractions like social media and work often delayed or prevented him from fulfilling the mitzvah.
To overcome this challenge, Oshri created a unique app called 'First Tefillin, Then the World' that locks all other apps at a chosen time until the user puts on tefillin. When attempting to access blocked apps, a message appears asking, "Did you put on tefillin today, tzaddik?" This innovative solution reflects a growing trend among Israeli public figures who have recently embraced religious practices more openly.
Other celebrities such as actor Israel Atiyas and singer Liraz Russo (known as Static) have also publicly shared their daily tefillin routines. This rise in religious observance among media and entertainment personalities has become more common in recent years, especially following the traumatic events of October 7th. Oshri’s app exemplifies how digital technology can be harnessed to support spiritual discipline in a modern, tech-driven world.
