Polls Show Declining US Support for Trump, Israel Ahead of Midterms
New polls from CNN and NBC reveal a significant drop in American public support for President Donald Trump and Israel, with growing opposition to a war with Iran. The CNN poll indicates that only 29% of Americans approve of Trump's overall policies, while 71% disapprove. Regarding Iran, 73% oppose military action, with only 26% in favor. Furthermore, only 20% believe Trump's foreign policy has improved America's global standing, compared to 65% who feel it has harmed it.
The CNN poll also surveyed views on Israel, asking respondents to categorize the country as an ally, a friend but not an ally, unfriendly, or an enemy. A mere 34% identified Israel as an ally, with 27% calling it a friendly nation. A concerning 24% labeled Israel as unfriendly, and 15% went as far as to call it an enemy of the United States. This 15% figure is the highest recorded by CNN since 2000, with the increase primarily seen among Democratic voters and 23% of those under 45.
The NBC poll presented a slightly more favorable picture for Trump, showing 41% support for his policies versus 56% opposition. Ahead of the midterm elections, the NBC poll found 50% support for the Democratic Party compared to 45% for Republicans.
When asked about specific policy stances, the NBC poll revealed that only 25% of respondents would be more likely to vote for a candidate who supports funding and supplying weapons to Israel, while 55% said they would not. Similarly, 57% opposed voting for a candidate who supports a war with Iran, with only 24% in favor.
