Levin Accuses Supreme Court Judges of Blocking Promotions for Political Reasons
Justice Minister Yariv Levin attacked Supreme Court President Isaac Amit, saying Amit had convened a hearing today without authority. Levin quoted Amit as saying, “Judges are not promoted because of political considerations,” and suggested Amit was referring to what Levin described as an improper veto by Amit and his colleagues over the appointments of Dr. Bakshi and Dr. Biton to the Supreme Court.
Levin further claimed that for years Supreme Court justices have blocked the advancement of excellent candidates for non-professional reasons. In his words, they did so only for political and personal motives, because the candidates were not “one of theirs.”
