Former Israel Coach Herzog Praises Dor Peretz, Discusses Austrian Team

Former Israel national football team coach Andy Herzog believes midfielder Dor Peretz possesses the talent to play in top European leagues like Germany or Italy. Herzog described Peretz as a "wonderful, very technical" player with good physical attributes, suggesting he could excel anywhere he chooses.

Herzog, who also has ties to Austrian football, shared his thoughts ahead of the upcoming Nations League match between Israel and Austria. He reflected on Austria's recent World Cup performance, noting that while they advanced from the group stage, their play did not meet his expectations, particularly in attack. He pointed to losses against Argentina and Spain as expected, but lamented the lack of created chances. Herzog also commented on Israel's difficult group, highlighting Ireland's physicality and Kosovo's development under coach Franco Foda, recalling a memorable 4-2 victory over them in Haifa.

Addressing Israel's security situation, Herzog acknowledged that playing outside of Israel, without the advantage of home crowds in cities like Tel Aviv, Haifa, or Jerusalem, would weaken the team. He also discussed the current state of Israeli football, observing that many national team players are competing at a high level, which is crucial for the team's development and brings it to a different standard. He identified key Austrian players to watch, including Christoph Baumgartner, Sasa Kalajdzic, Michael Gregoritsch, and Konrad Laimer, while expressing hope for the future of young talent like Paul Wanner.

Looking ahead, Herzog expressed a desire to return to coaching but stated that his current priority is caring for his mother, who is in a wheelchair. He is currently working in media, observing and learning from other coaches and the evolution of the sport.
