Dor Peretz Tapped to Lead Israel's National Football Team Attack

Dor Peretz is reportedly set to return to the striker position for the Israeli national football team as they prepare for an extensive international break featuring four matches against Austria, Kosovo, and Ireland. Coach Ran Ben Shimon is considering this tactical shift due to concerns about the availability and condition of other key forwards. Several strikers, including Dor Turgeman, Tai Baribo, and Idan Toklomati, are expected to arrive just 24 hours before the upcoming match against Austria after long flights from the United States, raising fears of jet lag and reduced readiness.

Furthermore, Ben Shimon is keen to keep star player Oscar Gloukh in his preferred attacking midfield role. By deploying Peretz as the primary striker, the coach aims to ensure both Peretz and Gloukh can play together effectively. Peretz has previously played as a false nine, notably scoring twice in a 5-4 loss against Italy.

The full squad is expected to be announced tomorrow. Notable potential inclusions are Noam Steifman, Yarin Levi, and Eitan Azulay. Azulay, however, will miss the Austria game due to his wedding on September 23rd. Gabi Kaniovsky will also be unavailable for the Austria match because of his brother's wedding. Neta Lavi is already sidelined due to injury.
