Nova Festival Survivor, Now Religious, Becomes Father

Barak Nixon, a survivor of the Nova music festival massacre who has since returned to religious observance, and his wife Li-Yam have welcomed their first child, a son. The birth occurred after a complicated labor that began on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, just before the holiday commenced. Nixon was in Uman, Ukraine, at the time, and his wife was hospitalized for nearly a week.

Li-Yam Nixon shared on Instagram that the labor started with unexplained pains and a lack of fetal movement. She went to the emergency room while her husband was abroad. She managed to inform him before her phone died that she was unsure if labor was progressing. The hospitalization involved significant pain, numerous tests, fear, and uncertainty.

She expressed her belief that God would allow her to experience this motherhood journey only after her husband returned. Indeed, two days after his return, their baby was born. She described the moment of holding their son as making all the pain, tears, fears, and tests worthwhile, calling him their "gift of life."

The new parents thanked God and expressed their hope to raise their son "in the way of Torah, faith, reverence for heaven, good character, and love of God." The couple married in January in a modest ceremony, which Nixon stated was done for God. They had previously announced their pregnancy in June.

Barak Nixon famously survived the October 7th Hamas attack on the Nova festival by hiding in a chemical toilet for eight and a half hours. He previously stated that he made promises to God during his ordeal. He was among the last survivors found alive in the area.
