Police Solve Assassination of Alleged Caucasus Crime Boss

Israel's Coastal District Police Central Unit announced the resolution of a high-profile criminal case involving the assassination of Yanis Yushbayev, who was identified by police as the head of the "Caucasus Mafia" in Israel. Yushbayev, 41, was shot and killed last month outside a gas station in Caesarea as he was leaving a restaurant with his entourage. Security camera footage showed the assailant approaching Yushbayev at close range and firing multiple shots, killing him instantly. The graphic video of the assassination was leaked online and widely circulated, causing significant public outcry.

A 54-year-old resident of Beit She'an was arrested shortly after the murder. Investigators from the Central Unit compiled extensive forensic evidence against the suspect, including definitive identification through a comparison of gas station security footage with intelligence data and previous arrest records. Following the compilation of evidence, a statement of intent to indict was filed, and an indictment is expected in the coming days.

Yushbayev, a resident of Or Akiva, was involved in the food and restaurant industry but also maintained deep connections within the criminal underworld. He was a primary target for police in the Sharon and Coastal regions. Over the years, he had been linked to a wave of vehicle arsons and shooting incidents, and he survived a previous assassination attempt in 2015.

Law enforcement officials described the assassination as an "earthquake" in the criminal world. Since Yushbayev's death, police forces have been on heightened alert, anticipating potential revenge attacks and attempts to destabilize territories in Or Akiva and Hadera.
