Israel Prize Winner Slams Defense Minister Over Hamas Threat Response

Menachem Klezman, an Israel Prize laureate and a survivor of the October 7th Hamas attack, has sharply criticized Defense Minister Israel Katz. Klezman, who lost his brother Elhanan and nephew Pedaya Mark in the fighting, cited reports of Hamas preparing to abduct a soldier as the reason for his condemnation.

Klezman recalled a personal meeting with Katz, stating, "You looked me in the eyes and promised we wouldn't return to the same place." He expressed dismay at the reported response to the Hamas threat, which he characterized as "If you do it, you will be punished," arguing that such a stance signifies Israel reverting to a reactive policy instead of taking initiative.

He pointed to a recent video of a terrorist infiltrating an army post, noting that the terrorist did not commit murder only due to his "good heart." Klezman emphasized that Israel is waiting for Hamas's actions rather than acting preemptively. He urged Katz and the government to take independent action to disarm Hamas, stating that if Hamas does not disarm as per an agreement, Israel must enforce it by force, as no other nation will do it for them.

Klezman concluded by questioning the government's actions and their right to expect votes, asking what they will do that they are not already doing. He stressed that the crucial factor is not the border line but what and who is behind it, referencing his year-long assertion on this matter.
