Israel Cracks Down on Illegal Balconies Ahead of Sukkot Holiday

The Israel Land Authority is conducting enforcement operations nationwide to dismantle illegal structures, including balconies and extensions, ahead of the Sukkot holiday. The campaign targets permanent constructions that violate building codes and pose public safety risks, distinguishing them from temporary booths erected for the holiday.

Suppliers, locksmiths, and contractors have received warning letters emphasizing the legal requirement to obtain permits before undertaking construction work. The Authority is also implementing nationwide preventative measures to identify violations promptly. Cases of unauthorized construction will result in enforcement proceedings.

The Bnei Brak municipality, in collaboration with the Israel Land Authority and local rabbis, has issued a special notice to residents, warning against building unlicensed balconies and extensions due to the inherent dangers. The Authority stressed that such constructions are illegal and can lead to structural collapse.

Violators face official orders and substantial administrative fines, potentially reaching hundreds of thousands of shekels. Both property owners and contractors can be held liable for illegal construction. The Authority stated that authorities will employ strict enforcement measures against anyone undertaking construction work outside the law.
