Israel on High Alert for Sukkot Terror Attacks Amid Rising Threats

Israeli security forces are on heightened alert ahead of the Sukkot holiday, which begins September 25, due to fears of terrorist attacks. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have long warned of increasing terrorist activity in Judea and Samaria. Recent attacks in the region indicate a persistent presence of weapons, terrorists, and a strong intent to carry out attacks, according to Ynet military correspondent Elisha Ben-Kimon.

Following a recent attack in Benjamin where Natanel Shukrun was killed just before Yom Kippur, the IDF is investigating the source of the attacker's weapon and potential accomplices planning further sabotage. During Sukkot, the military and security services will operate at maximum readiness, a level typically reserved for the most critical periods. The holiday traditionally sees thousands of Israelis traveling, necessitating a significant security presence across the country.

To prevent escalation, IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir has ordered an increased military presence in Judea and Samaria. The Southern Command will be reinforced with an additional division responsible for the sector south of Jerusalem, allowing the Judea and Samaria division to concentrate its resources on high-threat areas.

During the Yom Kippur fast, IDF soldiers thwarted a major attack planned by two Hamas operatives in Qabatiya. On the same day, in Biddu, the hometown of the Benjamin attacker, 100 buildings were searched, 90 suspects interrogated, and weapons seized. Simultaneously, the Duvdevan special forces unit discovered a weapons manufacturing machine, two Carlo submachine guns, and ammunition in Beit Ur al-Taht.

Preventing drone threats is a key focus. The Southern Command continues to exert pressure on Hamas by eliminating terror leaders, while the Northern Command maintains its perimeter against Hezbollah units.
