UN Expert Criticizes NATO, Calls for Ukraine Disarmament

Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories, has drawn criticism for her recent statements regarding the war in Ukraine. Instead of blaming Russia for the ongoing conflict, Albanese suggested that NATO is responsible for its escalation and called for an immediate halt to all military supplies to Ukraine.

When pressed on how to end the fighting without supporting Kyiv, Albanese admitted she had no answer. This position has been described as absurd, leaving the aggressor armed while the victim is disarmed, with Western allies blamed for the prolonged conflict. Critics argue that her rhetoric aligns with Russian propaganda and distorts international law.

This stance is not new for Albanese, who has previously taken a similar approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Following the Hamas attacks in October 2023, she accused Israel of genocide and called for its disarmament. Observers note that she consistently applies double standards, demanding disarmament from victims of aggression in both Ukraine and the Middle East, which they view as a concerning display of ideological bias overriding objective reality.
