New Golan Museum to Blend Ancient Artifacts with Modern Technology

A new Golan Museum is set to be established in the heart of the Ancient Katzrin Park, aiming to merge the region's archaeological treasures with advanced technology, including artificial intelligence and interactive experiences. The museum's development is part of a broader initiative to enhance Katzrin and the Golan Heights as a significant tourist destination for families and visitors from Israel and abroad.

The new facility will be housed in a 900-square-meter building and is designed as a multi-sensory, interactive visitor experience. It will feature immersive display spaces, multimedia elements, hands-on activities, and AI-driven solutions alongside original artifacts. These artifacts include findings from the Battle of Gamla, Hebrew inscriptions, menorah decorations, and other discoveries from across the Golan. The museum will guide visitors through thousands of years of Golan history, from its basalt landscape and the Great Revolt at Gamla to ancient synagogues and daily life during the Mishna and Talmudic periods.

Adjacent to the museum, an innovative planetarium is planned. Both attractions will be connected under a unified concept, "Between Earth and Sky," taking visitors on a journey from the Golan's unearthed treasures to the celestial bodies above. This integration is part of the ongoing development of the Ancient Katzrin Park, a 25-dunam (approximately 6.2-acre) site recreating Jewish village life in the Golan during the Mishna and Talmudic eras.

The project aims to significantly expand the visitor experience, positioning the complex as a major heritage and tourism hub in northern Israel. The museum is designed to accommodate up to 200 visitors simultaneously, with an average visit duration of 90-120 minutes. Annual visitor capacity is estimated between 162,000 and 216,000. The projected completion date for the museum is 2028.

Katzrin Local Council head Yehuda Do'a stated that the new museum is a crucial addition to Katzrin's development, reinforcing its status as the Golan's capital and a leading northern tourist center. He emphasized that the synergy between the ancient artifacts, the historical park, and the planetarium will create a unique experience, attracting visitors, boosting tourism, and generating economic opportunities for the city and the region.
