Israeli Arab Sentenced to Over Four Years for Contacting Foreign Agent
The Haifa Central Court has sentenced Fares Abu Al-Hija, 32, from Kafr Abu Al-Hija, to 55 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to contacting a foreign agent as part of a plea deal. The court found that Abu Al-Hija carried out six tasks for the foreign agent in exchange for approximately $3,600. These tasks included purchasing and concealing mobile phones and photographing various locations, including streets near the home of former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
In addition to the prison sentence, Abu Al-Hija received a 24-month suspended sentence and was fined 10,000 shekels. The court stated that his actions posed a significant risk to state security and emphasized the importance of deterrence in cases involving contact with foreign entities.
The ruling comes amid ongoing security concerns and follows a separate incident where a young man from Majd al-Krum was arrested on suspicion of communicating with a Lebanese agent and carrying out security tasks.
