Rabbi Rules on Sukkot Sukkah Construction Methods

Rabbi Binyamin Houta, a prominent halachic decisor, addressed a common question regarding the construction of the Sukkah for the upcoming Sukkot holiday: whether it is permissible to secure the Sukkah's roofing material, known as sekhakh, using zip ties or nails.

In his daily "Halacha in 60 Seconds" segment on the website Kikar HaShabbat, Rabbi Houta explained that according to the core principles of Jewish law (halacha), using such fasteners is technically permissible. He clarified that these items function as 'standing' elements, which are not prohibited in this context. However, the rabbi advised a stricter approach, recommending that it is preferable not to use zip ties or nails for securing the sekhakh.
