Trump Delays Yemen Attack After Saudi Crown Prince Plea
President Donald Trump considered launching an attack against the Houthi rebels in Yemen over the weekend but ultimately decided to postpone the action for the time being, according to two senior U.S. officials. Trump was reportedly torn between his desire to aid Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, a key ally, and his wish to avoid entanglement in a new war in the Middle East.
Earlier, Reuters reported that Trump spoke with Yemeni President Rashad al-Alimi, who requested U.S. assistance in combating the Houthis. Trump did not commit to providing aid during the conversation.
In separate news, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration is preparing to impose extensive sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. These sanctions would prohibit most transactions with the ICC, potentially paralyzing its operations by, among other measures, banning dollar-denominated deals and thus cutting it off from significant parts of the global financial system.
