Yesh Atid MK Calls for State Commission to Investigate October 7

Knesset Member Vladimir Beliak of the Yesh Atid party believes that the establishment of a state commission to investigate the events of October 7 is crucial for Israel. In an interview with Boris Mirkin on MIG TV, Beliak stated that any prospect of a Palestinian state has become irrelevant for at least the next 10 to 15 years, and potentially much longer, as Israeli society is not prepared for such a development.

Beliak emphasized that Israel should currently focus on domestic priorities, including the economy, economic growth, and internal security. He also addressed the issue of Qatari funds for Gaza, noting that while the Bennett-Lapid government aimed to change previous policies, they had limited time. Beliak pointed out that Benjamin Netanyahu served as prime minister for 17 years, contrasting it with their ten-month tenure, and stressed that October 7 occurred during Netanyahu's current term.

He advocated for a state commission as defined by existing legislation, where the government sets the mandate and the judiciary appoints members. Beliak suggested that if the Netanyahu government had preferred a different investigative mechanism, it had ample time and a parliamentary majority to establish one. He concluded that forming this state commission should be one of the first actions of a future Israeli government.
