Northern Israel Leader Declines Knesset Seat for Cabinet Role

Moshe Davidovich, head of the Northern Confrontation Line Forum and the Mate Asher Regional Council, has declined a high-ranking position on Gadi Eisenkot's "Yashar!" party list for the Knesset. Instead, Davidovich has accepted an offer to serve as the designated Minister of National Infrastructures, responsible for the North and South, overseeing budgets potentially in the tens of billions of shekels.

Davidovich stated he has no desire to be a Knesset member, preferring a "performance role" that can enact change, particularly in the neglected North and Negev regions. He expressed a preference for hands-on work in developing these areas through initiatives in education, medicine, and infrastructure, rather than engaging in parliamentary debates.

He explained his vision for the Ministry of National Infrastructures to absorb the Ministry of the Negev and Galilee, citing Ariel Sharon's previous model for a comprehensive development body. Davidovich believes integrating these regions into a single ministry is crucial for Israel's future.

Davidovich, who has been a prominent advocate for the rights of residents evacuated from the northern border due to the conflict with Hezbollah, also criticized the government's handling of security and economic support for the North. He highlighted the ongoing struggle for essential protections like safe rooms in border communities and the failure to implement promised tax benefits for residents.

He emphasized that his decision to forgo a Knesset seat was driven by a desire to serve the residents of the confrontation line and the North, asserting that he is a public servant committed to their well-being, regardless of political pressures. Davidovich also outlined Eisenkot's principles for coalition formation, including recognition of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state and a commitment to national service for all citizens.
