Iran Launches Mass Volunteer Force Amid Regional Tensions

Iran held a massive rally in Tehran over the weekend, featuring hundreds of thousands of participants demonstrating support for the regime and readiness for conflict. The event, described as the largest display of the government's strength since U.S. and Israeli strikes in February, saw attendees in military attire stepping on Israeli and American flags while chanting anti-Israel slogans. This rally was part of a new military initiative called "Janfada-ye Iran" (Sacrificers for Iran), according to Walla! News. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported that over 600,000 civilians have already registered for training with assault rifles, with projections of over one million volunteers to serve as an additional defense layer.

During the event, Hossein Taeb, commander of the new Basij militia, stated that these volunteers would become a "nightmare for Iran's enemies." The regime also showcased anti-aircraft systems and drones, similar to those allegedly used in a recent attack on an oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz, an attack for which Iran claimed responsibility. Experts suggest that beyond the external threat, this mass recruitment initiative also serves an internal purpose: bolstering the regime's repressive forces amid fears of new civil unrest due to a deep economic crisis.
