Avri Gilad Explains How Fitness Is a 'Money-Making' Investment
Israeli media personality Avri Gilad has shared his perspective on the financial benefits of maintaining physical fitness, framing his gym membership as a significant investment in his future well-being and independence. In a social media video posted from the gym, Gilad explained that while it appears he is simply exercising, he is actually "making a lot of money."
Gilad detailed his monthly gym cost of 149 shekels (approximately $40 USD), totaling 1,788 shekels annually. He contrasted this expense with the potential future costs associated with declining physical function in old age, which could include expenses for caregivers, wheelchairs, walkers, home assistance, and necessary home modifications. He emphasized that the cost extends beyond finances, highlighting the significant price of losing independence and relying on others.
He clarified that physical activity does not guarantee the avoidance of future medical needs, as even those who exercise can fall ill, get injured, or require assistance. However, Gilad views maintaining muscle mass as a crucial part of managing aging and preserving functional ability and autonomy over time. He summarized his philosophy by stating, "149 shekels a month is not a gym membership, it's a savings plan. And in the meantime, I'm depositing."
This viewpoint aligns with Gilad's recent discussions about fitness. Last month, while on vacation in Thailand, he shared that he continued his daily gym routine, asserting that one can take a break from routine but not from one's body. He also mentioned discovering a new hobby, playing padel, with friends daily, even in the heat, humorously suggesting he might open his own padel club upon returning to Israel.
