Greek Coach Offers to Lead Israel National Basketball Team
Stefanos Dedas, an assistant coach for Hapoel Tel Aviv, has approached the Israel Basketball Association with an offer to coach the national team, stating that compensation would not be an obstacle. Dedas, 44, also discussed the possibility with some current national team players. He previously served as an assistant coach for the Slovenian national team and has held coaching positions with prominent European clubs, including Fenerbahçe, CSKA Moscow, AEK Athens, and Hapoel Holon.
Dedas proposed a collaborative coaching arrangement with Guy Pnini, an assistant coach for Maccabi Tel Aviv. The two reportedly have a good relationship and a shared history from their time at Hapoel Holon.
However, the Israel Basketball Association responded by stating that Ariel Beit-Halahmi currently holds a contract as the national team coach until September 2027. The association emphasized that they are not currently discussing coaching appointments, as Beit-Halahmi's contract is still in effect.
